Brazil Fazenda
Fazenda Serrado is owned and operated by Jose Antonio and Caio Pereira, the fourth and fifth generations of Pereira coffee producers. The Pereiras’ goal is to create a farm that is totally self-sustainable, one that brings life to their business, their employees, and the surrounding ecosystem. This is evident in their constant search for ways to increase sustainability. Recently, they have been working on developing natural fertilizers and pesticides and currently produce 100% of their own electricity using solar panels! Although the farm sits at the foot of the Mantiqueira mountains, its land is relatively flat, allowing the use of tractors. This increases the farm’s efficiency, and leads to better working conditions and higher pay for employees.
