Our Team

  • Chris Bean

    Co-Owner

With a last name like “Bean,” it’s no wonder that Chris’ journey eventually intersected with coffee. While living in Columbus, OH his coffee journey began in 2004 when he first tied on one of those familiar green aprons. Within a few years he became a manager of a Starbucks location while finishing a masters degree in seminary. For Chris, the lines of faith-based community work were always blurred and paired with inspired coffee. Bean’s first encounter with third-wave craft coffee culture was at Rohs Street Cafe around 2005 while visiting Cincinnati with a friend. After moving to Cincinnati in 2006, he got involved with an eclectic cadre of coffee connoisseurs at the 1801 Mills intersection of Norwood with his coffee mentor, Larry Bourgeois. Through the Espresso Guild in Cincinnati, Chris became a coffee leader in the Cincinnati community training dozens of baristas and serving coffee in a variety of settings. In 2014, the rabbit hole of coffee deepened as Bean partnered with Human to launch Pneuma Coffee Roasters.

Chris continues to provide leadership for various faith-based initiatives with college students and spends some of his free time hiking local trails with his wife, backpacking sections of the Appalachian Trail and playing disc golf with his kids.

  • Chris Human

    Co-Owner

Chris’ coffee story began circa 2000 when he was barista trained by a local roaster. His first experience with craft coffee was in 2003 when attending a concert at Rohs Street Cafe in Cincinnati where he was enamored with the third place that RSC was providing as well as the quality of their coffee. Over the years coffee began to integrate more and more into Chris’ journey through the venues that he managed, until 2015 when Human and Bean partnered to launch Pneuma Coffee Roasters. As one of the founders of Pneuma Coffee, Chris is passionate about working to build direct relationships with our producers. Over the years Chris has been integral in the renovation and build out of a dozen or more coffee spaces and loves to consult and share his experience in the development of our partners new spaces. In his spare time he loves seeing live music and enjoying the outdoors.

  • Dan Crowe

    Roaster and Service Manager

Dan’s coffee story began in 2013 as a barista at a local coffee shop. Being a touring musician, Dan played in dozens of venues, many of which were coffee shops. During his visits to these venues Dan found that he loved the community that revolved around not only the music, but the coffee as well. Dan has worked as a general manager for one of Cincinnati’s largest hospitality companies, managing the day to day operations and build out of new coffee venues. More recently Dan worked as a technician for one of Cincinnati’s most respected coffee equipment repair companies as their lead technician. Out of Dans experience as both a coffee shop manager and coffee equipment technician has grown his passion for serving our wholesale clients. His unique perspective from both sides of the espresso machine gives him a close and personal understanding of the shop owner/manager’s daily struggles. A fun fact about Dan is that he once placed second in a latte art competition by accident. In his free time he enjoys performing in local bands, repairing motorcycles and espresso machines.
