Our Marsellesas coffee comes from Ariel Teran and family on the slopes of the Las Casitas Volcano in the Chinandega region of Nicaragua. The La Concepcion farm has been run by Ariel’s family for five generations now! The majority of coffee in this blend comes from this farm.
Ariel Teran, the producer, along with his children do their work with passion and pride and are committed to sustainability and innovation. This coffee is a result of that innovation as they dedicate several different microlots on the farm towards different varietals to achieve distinct and delicious coffees.
In adding this coffee to the Pneuma lineup, we have decided to blend this with a bit of Indonesian coffee to create a delicious dark roast blend. Dark roast coffee is not necessarily en vogue amongst the Specialty Coffee community these days but we believe those who enjoy a more darkly roasted coffee on occasion should still have some options.
Roasting both of these coffees (the Nicaraguan Maresllesas along with the Indonesian coffee) creates a bold dark chocolate flavor with a full body and slightly earthy finish.
The Dark Roast Blend makes for a delicious after-dinner or dessert coffee as well as a solid every-day blend. Being lower in acidity, this coffee is perfect for those who want to steer clear of brighter fruitier coffees. And this is a great way for us to breathe life into the communities that produce this solid coffee!
